1. Demand Trend

 

 ○ The market demand of welds in Chile is cyclical; it depends on the demand for productive inputs by level of economic activity that is being developed.

 

 ○ In Chile, the market of the welds is mainly linked to the construction industry either; new infrastructure or renovating existing infrastructure (especially reconstruction after natural disaster) and this is why is sensitive to variations that affect this industry.

 

 ○ Annual sales in the market are about $ 374 million and about 44% are sales of a national company INDURA, although there is presence of international brands.

 

 ○ As for the type of welding, in Chile there are a wide variety of available processes. However, the manual arc system (MMA) with coated electrodes is the most relevant mainly because of simplicity and low cost. This system is used for the repair, fabrication and construction works in almost all small and medium welding workshop

 

 

2. Production Trend

 

 ○ Considering that welds are a steel processing business, those countries that stand out for the development of its steel industry have local producers of welds with relevant market sizes. This is the case of Chilean company INDURA, domestic producer that owns 44% of the national market with annual sales of over US$ 400 million. It is also a regional leader in the markets for industrial gases and welding, with strong positions in Peru, Argentina, Colombia, among others.

 

 ○ As for production, INDURA has two welding-related plants both located in the metropolitan region. The first dedicated to the manufacture of electrodes and the second for continuous welds.

 

 ○ INDURA’s competition in the Chilean market are international brands, among which ESAB and Lincoln are the most important, although have a minor market share. Other brands and product prices of the competition will be found bellow in the imports statistics section.
