1. Market Trend

 

□ Market Overview

 

 ○ The automotive market in Chile is quite broad in terms of imports but not so well in the manufacturing area. When it comes to parts or auto parts, the market is more developed in the area of import and sale of original parts of the great automotive brands. That is why this study will focus on the import area.

 

 ○ In recent years, positive changes have been noted with respect to the importation of radiators; in 2010, compared to 2009, increased by 35% and even in 2012 there was an increase of 7.5% over the previous year (2011). The change was not significant in 2013 reaching 7.8%.

 

 ○ Among the market on importation there is a high prevalence of USA with more than 26% of the volume and amount. China is already found in the market after USA with a little lower percentage. Together they make 50% of the national market. Brazil comes in third place according to volume of importation and amount. In the case of Korea, is positioned in the 5th place beside Germany, with a 7%.

 

 ○ The most important USA brands are Ford and Chrysler, while Hyundai is the most important one for Korea.

 

 ○ The big target of heat exchanger in Chilean market is the automotive field. The automotive market is increasing every year, and the case of spare parts, increases directly with the numbers of cars that entering in our country. The FOB importation of heat exchangers and different parts in 2013 was US$ 67.288.950.

  - 5 years ago the import market has grown increasingly slightly. In 2010, a positive variation of 35% was observed, rising to 20% for the following year (2011). Then in 2012 we see a much smaller but still positive variation of 7.5 in 2013 and a slight positive variation of 7.8% was observed.

  - Through the years, USA has been the top importer on heat exchangers, and its amount has been increasing each year. China has also been consistent on this issue with the second position last year, but suffered no very significant negative changes. However, the figures show that Korean participation on Chilean market is significant but with very slight variations. Japón está en la 6ta posición, luego de corea, pero a través de los últimos años ha ido disminuyendo su cantidad de importaciones. The following countries remained relatively at the same positions but they do not show significant changes. If we focus in 2013, Brazil has a considerable participation on the market, followed very closely by Germany. The countries which are not mentioned in the chart but have a lower participation are Japan, Belgium, France, Sweden and Mexico according to 2013 figures. 3. Distribution Channel

 

 

 ○ There are two channels in terms of distribution of the product. The first one is the most common and important in Chilean market, because the international brands have representatives in our country which later distributed the product to the national market and later these local distributors sell the products to the clients. For example, this is the case of Ford, Chrysler, Hyundai, etc.

 

 ○ The second channel is very similar to the first one. In this case international brands are still in charge of manufacturing the product. However, in Chile there are direct importers, which represent an exclusive brand inside the country. Finally, the product arrives to the final costumers. An example of this channel is ‘Koyorad’, a company that imports many heat exchangers of main international brands, like Ford, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, BMW, among others.

 

 ○ The final channel and the less common is the one in which there is a national producer of the product. This producer is in charge of selling and distributing his own product to the final costumer. In the case of national productions; they are not as big as international one because the Chilean market mostly prefer the original brand products, and in the case of opting for alternative parts, customers are looking for the cheapest prices without leaving much possibility for Chilean manufacturers to increase sales amount.
