1. PE Protection Tape – General Information

 ○ PE protective tape (PE protection film) is commonly used in wrapping goods and commodities with the purpose of protecting goods during transportation and storage. There are almost no specific statistic figures regarding local demand for PE protective tape. However, local manufacturers said that local consumption power for the product is rather big because it is widely used in many industries. This leads to the fact that local production for PE protective tapes is rather strong and developed.  

 ○ There are actually two main kinds of local makers for PE protective tapes. The first one is company that produce PE film from plastic resin. The second one is company that divides PE jumbo tapes into smaller sized rolls.

 ○ Regarding types of PE protective tapes, there are two main types as follows: (1) PE protective tape using hand-wrapping and (2) PE protective tape using machine-wrapping.

 ○ For hand-wrapping PE protective tape, the most common thickness is 17 Mic (micrometer). Popular width is 500㎜(50cm). There are also some other widths such as 200㎜, 30㎜, 40㎜ or 1,000㎜ but these sizes are not popular.

 ○ For machine-wrapping PE protective tape, the most common thickness is 20 Mic and 23 Mic. Popular width is 500㎜.

 ○ During conducting the price trend for PE protective tape, it was found that the most popular width size of PE protective tape in Vietnam is 500㎜(50cm).

 ○ Most of the products, which are available in the market, are locally made products. For PE protective tapes, very few companies that set specific brands on their products. They generally use their own company name for their PE tapes. As searching the prices of PE protective tapes, we found almost no foreign made imported products in local market.  

2. Tariff Rates

□ For the time being, products under HS Code 3919.90 imported from Korea has to subject to high import tax rate of 5%. The VAT 10% will be paid by the importer at the custom clearance.

□ VAT rates

 ○ The VAT rate of 10% is applied for commodities under HS Code 3919.90 according to the Export-Import Tariff and Value Added Tax on Imports.

3. Retail Price Trend

 ○ As mentioned above, the most popular width of PE protective film (PE tape) is 500mm. Very few companies that provide PE protective film with width of more or less than 500mm. Besides, all of the products are locally made products. We found almost no foreign made imported products in the market.

 ○ Below is the price list of some popular brands for electric bikes. All of the below prices are retail prices which are not inclusive VAT 10%.

 ○ The prices would be a bit fluctuated depending on (1) time of order, (2) quantity, (3) delivery place (inside or outside Hochiminh City and how far...).
